Voice 1:
Linda and I were walkin' to church when this guy came outta nowhere,
pointed a gun at us and said "Gimme your money or I'll shoot."
Now I had often brainstormed wonderfully off-beat lines like
"I'm wearing boxer shorts, and I know how to use them." But the
real thing happened so fast I just told the guy that I didn't have
any money, but if he would come with us to the church, we'd
try to find something for him.
But he just kept shouting, "Gimme the money," and I said again
that I didn't have any. We turned to go and I said "Why don't you
come with us?" He just stood there a minute and then ran away.
We may have been either lucky or crazy, but somehow I think
that giving this young man an invitation that had his needs
in mind helped him--at least this time--stay out of trouble.
Voice 2:
Disarm your enemies with love: think about what the
other person's real needs are.
